Union Pines NJROTC Narrowly Defeats W. H. Page NJROTC Wins Sporter Distinguished Navy JROTC Conference

Union Pines NJROTC edged out W. H. Page NJROTC 2059.1 to 2041.2 last week in the National Air Rifle League. With the win Union Pines NJROTC wins the Sporter Distinguished Navy JROTC Conference. They finished the season with an aggregate 6 - 2 record. Union Pines NJROTC was led by Nathan Auman who shot a 540.2. The remaining contributing members were Braeden Conn, William Suitt, Conner Brady, and Collin Ackerman. Union Pines NJROTC is from Cameron, and is coached by Keith Dangerfield.

W. H. Page NJROTC finished the season with an aggregate 5 - 3 record, and second place in the conference. W. H. Page NJROTC was led by, Emilyrose Sheffield who shot a 538.6. The remaining contributing members were Makenna Wilson, Nicholas Waegerle, Emma Senneville, and Jex Harrison. W. H. Page NJROTC is from Greensboro, NC, and is coached by David Buchholz.

These two teams are competed in the Sporter Distinguished Navy JROTC Conference title game. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season, followed by this single game Conference Title Game for the top two teams in the conference.

In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shot 20 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10.9 points. The sum of points scored in the 60 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
