Pueblo West AJROTC Narrowly Defeats John F. Kennedy AJROTC
Shooting their highest score of the season Pueblo West AJROTC edged out John F. Kennedy AJROTC 1021.1 to 1015.4 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Their fourth win in a row. Pueblo West AJROTC finishes the season in sixth place within their 'Army Jrotc' conference. They finished the season with a 5 - 2 record. Pueblo West AJROTC was led by, Keziah Estabrook who shot a 269.4. The remaining contributing members were Barracuda Falls, Tyana Sanchez, and Jackson Dahlke. Pueblo West AJROTC is from Pueblo West, CO, and is coached by Matthew Dilcher.
John F. Kennedy AJROTC finished the season with a 3 - 3 record. Shooting their highest team score of the season John F. Kennedy AJROTC was led by, Isabel Rios who shot a 274.2. The remaining contributing members were Nicole Trujillo, Jazmin Espinosa-Garcia, and Alexandra Ronquillo. John F. Kennedy AJROTC is from Denver, CO, and is coached by Mark Gartner.
These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by a single game Conference Title Game for the top two teams in each conference.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10.9 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
