Union Pines NJROTC defeats Grove City NJROTC
Shooting their highest score of the season Union Pines NJROTC defeated Grove City NJROTC 1037.4 to 972.6 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Union Pines NJROTC finishes the season in tenth place overall and second place within their 'Navy Jrotc' conference. They finished the season with a 5 - 2 record. Union Pines NJROTC was led by, Conner Brady who shot a 266.1. The remaining contributing members were Braeden Conn, William Suitt, and Collin Ackerman. Union Pines NJROTC is from Cameron, and is coached by Keith Dangerfield.
Grove City NJROTC finished the season with a 4 - 3 record. They finishes the season in sixth place within their 'Navy Jrotc' conference. Grove City NJROTC was led by, Makayla Jones who shot a 247.9. The remaining contributing members were Caroline Richards, Harrison Schaefer, and Darci Ringhiser. Grove City NJROTC is from Grove City, OH, and is coached by CDR Dustin Martin.
These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by a single game Conference Title Game for the top two teams in each conference.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10.9 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
