Kamehameha Schools Hawai'i defeats W. H. Page NJROTC
Shooting their highest score of the season Kamehameha Schools Hawai'i defeated W. H. Page NJROTC 1136.9 to 1038.0 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Their sixth win in a row. With the win, Kamehameha Schools Hawai'i is in first place overall and first place within their 'Junior Rifle Club' conference. They currently have a 6 - 0 record. Kamehameha Schools Hawai'i was led by, Colby Terlep who shot a 290.2. The remaining contributing members were Briani Iyo, Calleigh-Rose Lee, and Rion Chong. Kamehameha Schools Hawai'i is from Keaau, HI, and is coached by Kelly Galdones.
W. H. Page NJROTC currently has a 4 - 2 record. After the loss they are in fourth place overall and first place within their 'Navy Jrotc' conference. W. H. Page NJROTC was led by, Emilyrose Sheffield who shot a 269.1. The remaining contributing members were Makenna Wilson, Jeffrey Strader, and Nicholas Waegerle. W. H. Page NJROTC is from Greensboro, NC, and is coached by David Buchholz.
Next up Kamehameha Schools Hawai'i will compete against Timber Beasts from Cornelius, OR. Timber Beasts currently has a 3 - 3 record. While W. H. Page NJROTC will compete against Northgate AFJROTC from Newnan, GA. Northgate AFJROTC currently has a 4 - 2 record.
These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by a single game Conference Title Game for the top two teams in each conference.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10.9 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
