Venice MCJROTC defeats W. H. Page NJROTC
Venice MCJROTC defeated W. H. Page NJROTC 1052.9 to 1025.0 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Their second win in a row. With the win, Venice MCJROTC is in tenth place overall and fourth place within their 'Marine Corps Jrotc' conference. They currently have a 3 - 2 record. Venice MCJROTC was led by, Collin Speyrer who shot a 274.8. The remaining contributing members were Galen Crusan, Julie Waller, and Samantha Mitizak. Venice MCJROTC is from Venice, FL, and is coached by Frank Troxel.
W. H. Page NJROTC currently has a 3 - 1 record. After the loss they are in fifth place overall and first place within their 'Navy Jrotc' conference. W. H. Page NJROTC was led by, Nicholas Waegerle who shot a 258.4. The remaining contributing members were Emilyrose Sheffield, Makenna (Required), and Emma Senneville. W. H. Page NJROTC is from Greensboro, NC, and is coached by David Buchholz.
Next up Venice MCJROTC will compete against Selma MCJROTC from Selma, CA. Selma MCJROTC currently has a 4 - 1 record. While W. H. Page NJROTC will compete against Union Pines NJROTC from Cameron. Union Pines NJROTC currently has a 4 - 1 record.
These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by a single game Conference Title Game for the top two teams in each conference.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10.9 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
