Selma MCJROTC defeats Wren NJROTC
Selma MCJROTC defeated Wren NJROTC 994.4 to 924.1 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Their third win in a row. With the win, Selma MCJROTC is in fifth place overall and third place within their 'Marine Corps Jrotc' conference. They currently have a 3 - 0 record. Selma MCJROTC was led by, Angel Reyes who shot a 260.3. The remaining contributing members were Adriana Ramos, Jessica Maldonado, and Jaquelin Munoz. Selma MCJROTC is from Selma, CA, and is coached by Mike Romero.
Wren NJROTC currently has a 1 - 2 record. After the loss they are in eighth place within their 'Navy Jrotc' conference. Wren NJROTC was led by, Tyler Morrison who shot a 273.5. The remaining contributing members were Natalie Gilmore, Cadence Whiten, and London Yackanicz. Wren NJROTC is from Piedmont, SC, and is coached by CDR Kevin Borden, USN (Ret).
Next up Selma MCJROTC will compete against Smith Station MCJROTC from Smith Station, AL. Smith Station MCJROTC currently has a 2 - 0 record. While Wren NJROTC will compete against Grove City NJROTC from Grove City, OH. Grove City NJROTC currently has a 1 - 1 record.
These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by a single game Conference Title Game for the top two teams in each conference.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10.9 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
