New Bern NJROTC Narrowly Defeats Eldorado NJROTC
Shooting their highest score of the season New Bern NJROTC edged out Eldorado NJROTC 961.6 to 953.6 last week in the National Air Rifle League. With the win, New Bern NJROTC is in twenty-second place overall and sixth place within their 'Navy Jrotc' conference. They currently have a 1 - 1 record. New Bern NJROTC was led by, Jacob Isla who shot a 266.2. The remaining contributing members were Son Tzu, Paw Shee, and Paw Ler . New Bern NJROTC is from New Bern, NC, and is coached by LCDR Ronald Fry.
Eldorado NJROTC currently has a 0 - 2 record. After the loss they are in ninth place within their 'Navy Jrotc' conference. Shooting their highest team score of the season Eldorado NJROTC was led by, Noelani Lopez who shot a 248.4. The remaining contributing members were Isabella Dominguez, James Prunty, and Davin Schneider. Eldorado NJROTC is from Las Vegas, NV, and is coached by Maj Todd Hook.
This coming week New Bern NJROTC has a bye week. While Eldorado NJROTC will compete against Gallatin NJROTC from Portland, TN. Gallatin NJROTC currently has a 1 - 0 record.
These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by a single game Conference Title Game for the top two teams in each conference.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10.9 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
