How do I setup Orion to track JROTC Qualification Awards

Return to the Support Questions page.

JROTC cadets who go through marksmanship training are eligible to earn qualification badges based on scores they shoot on record fire days. There are three badges Marksman, Sharpshooter, and Expert. As of version 2.3.12 Orion can track a cadets progress in earning each of these badges. The instructions below are specific for the Army JROTC qualification awards as described in Cadet Command Regulation 145-2, Appendix N. However, due to the similarities these instructions should apply to JROTC qualification awards for the Navy, Marine Corps, and Air Force.

Requirements

  • Orion version 2.3.12 or later.

Creating a Marksman and Sharpshooter Qualification Match

  1. Create a new local match.
  2. Set the rulebook as National Three-Position Air Rifle Council
  3. Specify the Reentry Match as "Highest Score from STAGE."
  4. Note: A "STAGE" in Orion is a position (e.g. prone, standing, or kneeling).

  5. On the Course of Fire Tab select the "2x10" course of fire.
  6. If you are using the BMC target, specify the number of shots per bull as 5.
  7. Save the Match Properties.

Creating a Expert Qualification Match

  1. Create a new local match.
  2. Set the rulebook as National Three-Position Air Rifle Council.
  3. Specify the Reentry Match as "Highest Score from EVENT."
  4. Note: An "EVENT" in Orion is the aggregate (e.g. prone + standing + kneeling).

  5. On the Course of Fire Tab select the "3x10" course of fire.
  6. If you are using the BMC target, specify the number of shots per bull as 5.
  7. Save the Match Properties.

Managing a Reentry Match

  1. On the Match Competitors tab, enter in each cadet that will be participating.
  2. For each day of competition:
    1. Print Labels. If you are using BMC targets select Single Bull Targets. Apply labels on targets as normal.
    2. Once the targets are shot, on the Match Scoring tab make sure the reentry tag (located next to the Auto-Score button) specifies today's date.
    3. Autoscore targets as normal.
  3. To view results, click the Match Results tab and Update Results.
  4. If you configured the match for Marksman and Sharpshooter qualification, the results will list each cadet's highest prone and highest standing scores. If you configured the match for Expert qualification, the results will list each cadet's highest aggregate score of prone, standing, and kneeling.
